I'm not even from NO and i'm awestruck watching the news footage. I feel for all of you guys, I hope you all make it through this well and didn't lose too too much. A part of me really wants to go help after seeing all this, i wish i didn't have to make a living so i could. well supposedly the levee behind my house broke, although I can't get much confirmation on it.

we lived on the first floor, so we expect to lose furniture and TVs and shit.

we're safely in Baton Rouge with Gretchen, who has opened up her home to us for however long this recovery takes. <3

It could take weeks/months to sort it all out. I just want to know that I will be able to graduate from UNO this semester.

I have to say that our evacuation site was quite nice and comforting. Even got some pool time in today, my dad wants to leave wednesday and head south again if possible, but he's listening to reason and realizing that there might not be any point of returning home so soon if power is out and there's no water service.

I feel very fortunate my home is still standing. I made it in and out of Abita today my home and my good friends in my neighborhood homes are ok. Many houses had trees in the middle of them. But everyone is ok. My home actually came out unscathed considering the amount of trees down. I am so sorry for people south of the lake. I don't think I have a job anymore (no ships in the river=no tugboats=no captains) I have a baby due in two days. But i still feel very fortunate to have a roof over my head and a place to stay in BR until we get power. We have enough savings and good family to get us through. My prayers go out to all that lost their homes. I'll post pics from abita in a little while.
